X-HOUSE

Zero-energy building / Zero-carbon building

Project Overview: This project is a residential building located in the X-Park campus in Huizhou. The total site area is 400㎡, with a footprint of 144㎡. The total floor area stands at 115.84㎡, of which 109.24㎡ is dedicated to living spaces and 6.6㎡ to auxiliary areas. The construction entities are China State Construction Engineering Corporation Science & Technology Group Co., Ltd. and China State Construction Engineering Corporation Green Technology Co., Ltd.

Low-carbon and energy-saving technologies: In terms of building envelope energy efficiency, advanced non-transparent enclosure technologies such as high-performance opaque envelopes, high-efficiency windows and doors, operable skylights, and thermal-bridge-free designs are employed. For proactive energy performance improvements, measures like DC variable water volume (VWV) centralized air-conditioning fan coil systems, intelligent lighting controls, smart shading systems, and active ventilation systems are implemented to minimize building energy consumption to the greatest extent possible. On the renewable energy front, the project features bifacial photovoltaic modules installed on rooftops, ensuring that electricity generation exceeds onsite energy demand. Additionally, a solar thermal system is used for domestic hot water, complemented by auxiliary heating equipment. To further enhance sustainability, the project incorporates a multifunctional perimeter wall that integrates photovoltaic panels with an integrated drip irrigation planting system, creating a self-balancing microsystem that optimizes energy use while supporting ecological growth.

Low-carbon benefits: The project achieved a comprehensive building energy consumption rate of 37.52 kWh/(㎡·a), with an annual cooling electricity consumption of 26.09 kWh/㎡, and a renewable energy utilization rate as high as 224.70%. As a participating entry in the 2021 International Solar Decathlon competition, the project took part in all 13 events, winning 9 individual championships and ultimately securing first place in the 2021 International Solar Decathlon Middle East Regional Competition.
