Project Overview: The project is located within the Guangdong plant area of China State Construction Steel Structure in Huizhou City. It consists of a three-story office building with a site area of 499.8㎡, a total floor area of 1,478㎡, and a building height of 12.25m. Completion took place in 2009. The applying entities are China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd. and China State Construction Engineering Group Green Technology Co., Ltd.

Low-carbon and energy-saving technologies: Building energy-saving and carbon-reduction renovations follow the principles of passive priority and active optimization. In terms of passive technologies, the building’s envelope system is upgraded by incorporating advanced exterior wall insulation, cutting-edge external reflective technologies, and innovative window and door sealing techniques—enhancing overall building performance. High-performance shading systems are also implemented to minimize solar radiation, significantly reducing air-conditioning energy consumption during summer months. Active technologies include an intelligent, breath-like rotating curtain wall design for the entrance hall, which automatically adjusts its angle and opens intelligently based on temperature and wind conditions, boosting indoor air circulation. Additionally, while the three-story open-plan office areas and large conference rooms are equipped with Tier 2 energy-efficient multi-split air conditioning systems, all other key functional spaces utilize Tier 1 energy-efficient inverter-based split air conditioners. Furthermore, energy-efficient lighting fixtures are installed, achieving a lighting power density that is more than 20% lower than standard requirements, coupled with zone-specific and group-based control strategies. Beyond these measures, the project actively integrates renewable energy sources. The rooftop features an elevated photovoltaic (PV) design, maximizing the area available for PV panel installation. Innovatively, it employs integrated photovoltaic-shading technology, utilizing cadmium telluride materials that enable efficient power generation even under low-light conditions.
Low-carbon benefits: The project has earned the first zero-energy design certification for a renovation project in the hot-summer and warm-winter region, achieving annual CO₂ reductions through comprehensive renovations. 2 Emissions totaled 86 tons, equivalent to afforestation of 9.6 hectares—roughly 192 times the area occupied by the building itself. The project’s key findings have been published in two peer-reviewed papers, and seven patents have been applied for.
