The site is located on the northern edge of the Kanto Plain, an area where urban factories and picturesque rice fields intertwine. For years, it has been home to a large farmhouse surrounded by a sprawling plot of land, along with a dense stand of hardwood shrubs in the background—totaling roughly 2,000 square meters. As per the owner’s requirements, The design team created a house that seamlessly blends with the semi-outdoor garden, integrating the site’s lush natural surroundings, the surrounding environment, and local activities. 。

The design divides the building into several volumes that enclose a courtyard, topped by a single roof spanning the entire structure. Beneath this roof, a shed-like rooftop platform is created, along with a nested room featuring a large skylight.

The house has also been divided into separate buildings, so that when the owner moves to another city, the structure containing the bedroom and bathroom can remain as a vacation home, while others can repurpose the remaining parts of the house as shops or galleries.

The design team envisions the courtyard as a space where new ideas emerge naturally through effortless interactions among people. Life won’t be confined to indoor settings—instead, it will extend outward into the courtyard and beyond. Daily routines will unfold amidst the site’s natural elements and climate, creating a vibrant home that fosters deep connections with local residents and the surrounding culture.
