Balcony Photovoltaics Enter the U.S. Market
Plug-in photovoltaics (plug-in PV, also known as balcony photovoltaics), which are popular in the European market, have entered the U.S. market, with retail prices higher than in Europe.

According to Trump's Great Beautiful Plan, the U.S. will eliminate the residential solar tax credit by the end of this year. This has led some American consumers to turn their attention to balcony photovoltaics, which have a lower total price and can be DIY installed.
However, compared to the European market, the unit price of balcony photovoltaics in the U.S. is still relatively high. For example, Bright Saver's Flex 200 balcony PV kit is priced at $399 and includes a 200W photovoltaic module, a microinverter, a power cord with an AC plug, and installation parts (zip ties, screws, etc.). Another manufacturer, Craftstrom, offers an 800W kit priced as high as $2031.5, and its matching 3kWh small energy storage system costs $4064.

Besides the price, most U.S. states currently lack legislation related to balcony photovoltaics and support from utility companies. For example, many utilities prohibit balcony PV systems from feeding electricity back into the grid without approval.
Balcony PV manufacturers have provided solutions for this. For instance, Craftstrom's kit includes a smart meter that can monitor household electricity load in real time. When the load is less than the PV system's output, it automatically notifies the microinverter to reduce output power or stores excess electricity in the battery, thus preventing reverse power flow.
