On August 22, reporters learned from State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Province has officially clarified the price mechanism for new energy vehicles participating in vehicle-to-grid interactive discharging, using attractive discharging price standards to further promote vehicle-to-grid interaction into a new stage of large-scale and commercial operation.

Vehicle-to-grid interaction mainly refers to new energy vehicles charging and storing energy during low grid load periods and discharging back to the grid during peak periods or when needed, making electric vehicles mobile distributed energy storage units. This technology is important for enhancing grid flexibility and promoting new energy consumption.

In April this year, the National Development and Reform Commission and three other departments issued the "Notice on the Announcement of the First Batch of Vehicle-to-Grid Interactive Large-Scale Application Pilot Projects" (hereinafter referred to as the "Notice"). Changzhou in Jiangsu was selected as a pilot city, with the Changzhou distributed V2G vehicle-to-grid interactive pilot, Nanjing's "Ningdian Tong" full-scenario V2G pilot, and Wuxi's "Source-Grid-Load-Storage" full-element coordinated vehicle-to-grid interactive comprehensive pilot projects selected.

To fully promote vehicle-to-grid interaction towards large-scale and commercial development, the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission recently introduced electricity price policies supporting large-scale vehicle-to-grid construction, Public and residential vehicle-to-grid interactive facilities participating in the pilot can carry out reverse discharging at economically attractive prices.

Taking the August 2025 electricity price for industrial and commercial users purchased by State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power as an example, The peak period discharging price can reach 1.2245 yuan per kWh, and based on the peak-valley price difference calculation, residential users can earn about 0.85 yuan per kWh.

 

 

 

Advocating "off-peak charging with midday compensation" to release energy storage potential

Besides reverse discharging, in the public charging sector, The "Notice" also clarifies that electric vehicle public charging facilities in pilot cities and projects will implement spring and autumn seasonal time-of-use periods throughout the year, increasing midday off-peak charging periods, Advocating the "off-peak charging with midday compensation" charging model to effectively reduce charging costs for new energy vehicle owners and promote regional distributed photovoltaic new energy consumption.

 

 

 

3 million new energy vehicles all participating

A relevant person in charge of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. said that the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in Jiangsu Province has continued to rise in recent years, with the stock exceeding 3 million in the first half of this year. "If all these new energy vehicles can participate in vehicle-to-grid interaction, based on an average discharging power of 20 kilowatts, the adjustable capacity is equivalent to building 10 large pumped storage power stations. The large-scale charging and discharging resource potential of vehicles is huge and helps accelerate the coordinated development of new energy vehicles and the power grid."
