BIPV Case Study: Shenzhen's First Ultra-Low Energy Consumption Ultra-High-Rise Building with Photovoltaic Power Generation

The Runshihua (Shenzhen) Headquarters R&D Building Project is located in Longcheng Street, Longgang District, Shenzhen, with a construction land area of 9,000.44 square meters. It consists of Building A, a 27-floor (127.90m) R&D office building, Building B, a 14-floor (61.95m) dormitory, a three-story podium, a two-level underground parking garage, and equipment rooms.

The project construction adopts unit photovoltaic curtain walls, prefabricated materials, and is built to the Green Building Three-Star standard to achieve ultra-low energy consumption and green building. Upon completion, it will promote research and development in clean energy and new energy fields, supporting Shenzhen's green development and pioneering demonstration of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

Technical Approach

1. The project adopts Longyan Cadmium Telluride Photovoltaic Curtain Wall Glass forming a shading system that innovatively realizes factory assembly of photovoltaic curtain walls, integrating lighting, shading, and power generation, aiming to create Shenzhen's first ultra-high-rise building with photovoltaic power generation and ultra-low energy consumption.

(Note: BIPV technology, i.e., Building Integrated Photovoltaics, is based on the core concept of deeply integrating photovoltaic building materials at the initial stage of architectural planning and design, making photovoltaic power generation an integral part throughout the building's entire lifecycle from planning, design, construction to operation and maintenance. Unlike traditional methods, BIPV does not simply install photovoltaic modules on existing buildings but makes power generation an indispensable function of the building itself through photovoltaic material integration.)

2. Using eQuest energy simulation software for hourly annual energy consumption simulation, actively responding to the national call for green and low carbon.

3. Using prefabricated components combined with "aluminum formwork + climbing frame" construction technology greatly improves construction efficiency and reduces construction risks, optimizes resource allocation, and empowers the project construction through BIM technology, VR technology, smart construction sites, and other ten new construction technologies and other "four new" technologies. It applies multiple lean construction measures such as secondary structure one-time forming and advanced closure of post-cast strips to enhance and upgrade contract performance.

4. Innovating and improving the design of internal and external building spaces, including innovations in building layout, space zoning, light utilization, and ventilation design.

5. Innovating in the selection, application, and manufacturing of building materials to improve building quality, durability, environmental friendliness, and aesthetics. This includes developing new materials, exploring sustainable materials, and utilizing smart materials to meet evolving building needs and environmental requirements.

With continuous technological progress and expanding application fields, future BIPV modules will develop towards high integration, not only efficiently generating power but also integrating composite functions such as intelligent shading and aesthetic customization, breaking through design bottlenecks like ultra-narrow frames and curved shapes. Building Integrated Photovoltaics is expected to lead the construction industry towards a greener and smarter future.
