Nikken Sekkei turned the 260,000㎡ Songling Avenue Bus Terminal into a 300 m long "urban wing." The two wings on the plan separate long-distance and dedicated buses, with the central URBAN CORE three-dimensional corridor running from three floors underground to three floors above ground. Natural light pours in, guiding transfers, shopping, and resting like a street alley, allowing passengers to shop while waiting. The facade uses sharp horizontal lines to depict speed, while close-up aluminum perforated screens simulate the water town lattice. They softly separate the interior and exterior; continuous setbacks and sky terraces bring greenery to every floor.

The undulating green tile roof imagery is abstracted into the folded ceiling of the URBAN CORE, with light and shadow flowing over time, paying tribute to the changing scenes of Suzhou gardens as one walks. With separate pedestrian and vehicle flows, weather-protected elevated walkways combined with commercial spaces upgrade "passing through" to "staying," realizing a "breathable gateway."
