PetroChina and the State Grid Corporation of China join forces to explore a million-kilowatt-level green electricity direct connection project

PetroChina and the State Grid Corporation of China are accelerating the joint exploration of a major carbon-neutral project in Northwest China involving a million-kilowatt-level green electricity direct connection. After the full implementation of the green electricity direct connection, the Shangku project will become the first million-kilowatt-level green electricity direct connection project in Northwest China, annually supplying 2.1 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity directly to park enterprises, boosting the proportion of green electricity consumption from zero to 60.4% , helping the Tarim 1.2 million tons/year Phase II ethylene project become a low-carbon ethylene production base. At that time, the downstream products of Dusunzi Petrochemical will fully meet the entry standards of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), helping PetroChina to form an ecological economic cycle chain of "photovoltaic desertification control - green electricity production - low-carbon manufacturing".

CCTV News: On the northern edge of the Taklamakan Desert, the Shangku High-tech Zone's 1.3 million kilowatt photovoltaic project built by the Tarim Oilfield is exploring "green electricity direct connection." Data shows that since the Shangku project was connected to the grid in January this year, it has cumulatively produced over 200 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity. The full implementation of the Shangku project's green electricity direct connection will make it the first million-kilowatt-level green electricity direct connection project in Northwest China, with 2.1 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity directly supplied to park enterprises annually.

The Shangku photovoltaic project covers an area of 35,000 mu and is equipped with an ultra-large-scale energy storage system, which can maximize the solution to the volatility problem of photovoltaic power generation. Tarim Oilfield, in collaboration with the State Grid Corporation of China and Dusunzi Petrochemical, is exploring the direct supply of green electricity to the nearby Dusunzi Petrochemical Company's ethylene project through a direct connection line, helping the Tarim 1.2 million tons/year Phase II ethylene project become a low-carbon ethylene production base.

Green electricity direct connection refers to green electricity generated from solar and wind energy that does not connect to the public power grid but is directly supplied to a single user through a dedicated line. In May this year, China issued the "Notice on Matters Concerning the Orderly Promotion of Green Electricity Direct Connection Development," encouraging various business entities to invest in green electricity direct connection projects. Currently, four provinces, Jiangsu, Yunnan, Qinghai, and Hebei, have issued implementation plans for green electricity direct connection.

Zhang Lin, Director of the Planning and Development Department of the China Electricity Council: The innovative exploration of green electricity direct connection is conducive to increasing the absorption capacity of new energy, promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of parks and enterprises, enhancing the social image and competitiveness of market entities, and promoting high-quality industrial development.
