Insights into the Newly Added PV Installation Data for Each Province in the First Half of the Year: After the Rush to Install, Has the Potential Been Exhausted?
In the first half of 2025, China's photovoltaic industry developed rapidly, with a total of 21,161,000 kilowatts of newly added grid-connected PV capacity nationwide. The proportion of PV in the installed capacity of energy and electricity is increasing, and its status is gradually becoming prominent.
On August 2, the National Energy Administration released the construction status of photovoltaic power generation in the first half of the year:

Concentrated PV Power Stations
In the first half of the year, the newly added grid-connected capacity of concentrated photovoltaic power stations was 98.8 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 99%, and it still plays a key role in large-scale energy supply. Among many provinces, Xinjiang, with a newly added capacity of 19.507 million kilowatts, ranks first. This is mainly due to Xinjiang's vast land resources, which can provide sufficient space for the construction of concentrated photovoltaic power stations, and the local solar resources are abundant, with inherent advantages for the development of concentrated photovoltaics. Yunnan, with a newly added installed capacity of 11.863 million kilowatts, follows closely behind. Yunnan's terrain and climate conditions make its solar energy resources widely distributed, and many areas are suitable for the construction of large-scale concentrated photovoltaic power stations.
In addition, the newly added capacity in Jiangsu, Shanxi, Ningxia, and Shandong provinces is also above 5 million kilowatts. As a strong economic province, Jiangsu not only performs well in the distributed photovoltaic field but also steadily promotes the construction of concentrated photovoltaic power stations with its strong economic strength and technological advantages; Shanxi uses its own resource endowments, and promotes the construction of concentrated photovoltaic power stations through policy promotion, financial support, and technological guarantees; Ningxia relies on good light and land resources to vigorously develop concentrated photovoltaics, with considerable newly added capacity; Shandong has a strong industrial foundation and has invested a lot of effort in the construction of concentrated photovoltaic power stations, achieving good results.
Distributed Photovoltaics
The newly added grid-connected capacity of distributed photovoltaics reached 112.81 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 113%, showing strong development momentum.
Specifically, for industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaics: the newly added capacity was 87.18 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 135%, with an extremely rapid growth rate. Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, and Shandong provinces ranked among the top four in terms of newly added capacity of industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaics. Jiangsu has a highly developed industry, with abundant rooftop resources for many industrial enterprises. In order to reduce electricity costs and respond to the call for green development, enterprises actively participate in the construction of industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaic projects, making it far ahead in this field. Zhejiang has many privately owned enterprises, a high sensitivity to energy costs, and the local government vigorously promotes the application of clean energy and provides many policy incentives, which has led to the vigorous development of industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaics. Guangdong, with its active economic activities and huge market demand, has achieved remarkable results in distributed photovoltaics, especially industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaics. Shandong has a strong industrial foundation, and the development of industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaics is rapid, becoming an important part of its photovoltaic industry.
In addition, the newly added capacity of industrial and commercial photovoltaics in Hubei and Anhui provinces is also above 5 million kilowatts. Hubei is actively tapping its own potential, utilizing the abundant industrial resources in the province, and increasing investment in the field of industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaics; Anhui actively responds to national energy policies and continues to make efforts in industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaics, achieving significant results.
The newly installed capacity of household photovoltaics was 25.63 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 62%. Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Anhui provinces ranked among the top three in terms of newly installed capacity of household photovoltaics. Jiangsu has a developed economy, a high standard of living, and a relatively high acceptance of new energy. Coupled with the government's subsidy policies and related publicity and promotion of household photovoltaics, many residents have installed photovoltaic equipment on their own roofs. With government support, Guangdong has stimulated residents' enthusiasm for participating in the construction of household photovoltaics by simplifying approval procedures and providing technical guidance, and the scale of household photovoltaics has continued to expand. Anhui has made full use of its own resource advantages to actively promote household photovoltaics to rural areas, providing rural residents with new ways to increase income and reduce energy consumption and emissions, and household photovoltaics have become widely popular in rural areas of Anhui. Zhejiang also performed outstandingly in the field of distributed photovoltaics. With a good industrial ecosystem and policy guidance, both industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaics and household photovoltaics have developed well, further promoting the growth of the local distributed photovoltaic industry.
