Singapore: Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Yishun
Singapore places great emphasis on the implementation and promotion of "green buildings." By 2030, the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Sustainable Development aims for green buildings to account for at least 80% of all buildings in the building and construction sector.
Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Yishun is one of Singapore's newest public hospitals. Designed by RMJM Architects of the UK, it fully adheres to green and high-efficiency principles. It achieves zero energy consumption in photovoltaic systems, heating, ventilation, and daily lighting systems, and increases green coverage to achieve 70% natural air circulation. The building's energy efficiency is 50% higher than the average for ordinary hospitals.
Khoo Teck Puat Hospital makes full use of every space to create a green medical environment. Each floor is filled with greenery to promote relaxation and rejuvenation. The stepped gardens on the rooftop platforms of both the private and public ward buildings, in particular, offer patients and visitors pleasant, private spaces for meditation during their strolls.
The building's exterior facade features landscape walls filled with epiphytes using a drip irrigation system, creating private screens for outdoor restrooms. Outdoor shallow-water plants provide the main water circulation and filtration system for the ecological pond.
