Imagine opening a bottle of ice-cold Coca-Cola, the refreshing taste hitting your taste buds. But the story behind this drink goes far beyond that. At the Jiangsu Taikoo Coca-Cola factory, a "green" experiment is underway. From making production waste disappear to powering the entire factory with green electricity, they are exploring an interesting path towards industrial production and environmental harmony. This bottle of Coca-Cola's journey might be greener than you think.

"Visible, Reducible, Reusable, Disposable"

01

Creating a Closed-Loop Waste Management System

Jiangsu Taikoo Coca-Cola innovatively built a closed-loop waste management system based on "visible, reducible, reusable, disposable".

· Visible: Using advanced monitoring technology to accurately track and analyze waste generation points throughout the entire production process.

· Reducible: Based on data insights, continuously optimizing processes to reduce resource consumption and waste generation from the source.

· Reusable: Turning unavoidable waste into treasure. Production scraps and waste are processed into raw materials for other industries; sewage sludge, sugar-containing activated carbon, and diatomaceous earth are sent to pottery factories to be mixed with clay for pottery making, achieving resource recycling.

· Disposable: For waste that cannot be reused (such as hazardous waste containing heavy metals), strict and regulated recycling, dismantling, and environmentally friendly disposal are carried out to minimize environmental impact.

Results and Goals: This closed-loop system has achieved remarkable results. The factory has achieved reasonable disposal of all waste, reaching the "zero landfill" goal (Note 1: Goal achievement is usually based on the company's self-reporting, such as annual sustainability reports or zero-waste certifications). The continuous improvement in resource utilization efficiency lays a solid foundation for the ultimate "zero-carbon" goal.

Green Electricity Transformation

02

Impressive Carbon Reduction Results

Energy structure transformation is key to achieving "zero carbon." Jiangsu Taikoo Coca-Cola is making great strides towards green electricity:

· Self-produced green electricity: The factory installed a 4MW rooftop photovoltaic project. (Note 2: Based on publicly available company information or project reports, such as Taikoo Coca-Cola's official website news releases, renewable energy project announcements, etc.) This project has an average annual power generation of approximately 4.06 million kWh, and is expected to accumulate 101.606 million kWh by 2025, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,088 tons annually.

· Purchased green electricity: Actively purchasing green electricity certificates. In 2024 alone, by achieving 100% purchased green electricity, approximately 17,000 tons of carbon emissions were successfully reduced.

· Green transportation: Implementing a vehicle renewal plan since 2019. To date, 18 new energy vehicles and 18 lithium-battery forklifts have been updated, reducing carbon dioxide emissions in related areas by more than 50%.

· Digital efficiency improvement: Applying the Manufacturing Information System (MIS) jointly developed by Siemens and Taikoo Coca-Cola, with significant results. Two years after large-scale deployment, through digital monitoring and optimization of production line energy consumption, energy consumption has been reduced by 8.5%, saving 32 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and reducing carbon emissions by over 20,000 tons. The upgraded version 2.0 MIS system's energy management module is expected to save an additional 3% or more in energy consumption annually.

The application of green electricity and energy efficiency improvements have significantly reduced the carbon footprint of production operations, depicting a picture of the integration of modern industry and green energy.

Employee Actions

03

Protecting Our Home, Spreading Warmth

At Jiangsu Taikoo Coca-Cola, environmental protection is not only a corporate strategy but also a sense of responsibility deeply rooted in the hearts of employees. Local employees consider protecting the local environment their duty:

· The factory's "carbon-reducing track" has become a special vehicle for practicing environmental protection: Employees' accumulated "green points" from exercise can be converted into public welfare activities such as afforestation and river cleaning.

· The "Everyone's Public Welfare" activity is flourishing: Employees use their spare time to go deep into communities and schools to popularize environmental protection knowledge and encourage more people to participate.

Employees' spontaneous actions have injected warmth and vitality into the company's environmental protection practices, demonstrating the company's and employees' shared responsibility in protecting their home.
