Norway The Plus Furniture Factory

The Plus is nearly 3,500 square meters. Unlike traditional enclosed furniture malls, it is a semi-open furniture sales and processing factory located deep in the heart of a forest. Its overall design integrates seamlessly with the forest park, incorporating the natural forest into the landscape design.

While providing hiking and camping areas, The Plus also serves as a landmark building in the region, furthering its mission of developing green manufacturing. Therefore, both designers and developers are committed to implementing the cleanest, zero-carbon footprint urban furniture manufacturing, becoming a globally recognized destination for sustainable architecture and efficient production.

During the design process, the designers paid attention to using materials with minimal environmental impact. Because the site is located deep within a forest, locally sourced materials were chosen, adhering to the principles of sustainable development. The designers plan to primarily use locally produced wood for the building's exterior, supplemented by low-carbon concrete and recycled rebar. This ensures that every aspect of the design is based on clean, renewable energy and, as experiments have shown, reduces greenhouse gas emissions to less than 50% of comparable buildings.

Visitors can access the building from four directions. The roof features a green rooftop garden, offering a unique experience of a furniture factory within a forest. The design also incorporates accessible pathways for people with disabilities and makes full use of sustainable natural energy—solar power—transferring excess heat to the cooling system, thermal storage system, and power system. The overall plan reduces energy needs by 90% compared to traditional factories.
