📖 Architect: He Architektuur

Hé Architektuur primarily focuses on transforming existing buildings. Combining the team's preference for renewable raw materials, the resulting works often appear as a creative revival of past eras' styles. The Karper project, located in Molenbeek, Brussels, is a building that served as a factory and offices for many years. The team retained the existing four walls and the metal beams running through the center of the building for support, adding exposed wooden floors. These elements, along with large windows and light-colored bricks, make the house appear bright and airy. Four mezzanine floors bring fluidity to this 330-square-meter building; most interior walls are missing, replaced by curtains, creating a highly flexible layout. The facade is a captivating blend of contemporary design and the imprint of time. The white brick attic extension sits atop this historic house, creating a beautiful contrast with the red brick and decorative window frames below.
