Case Study | Exploring a Zero-Carbon Future: A Complete Unveiling of the Hainan Boao Zero-Carbon Demonstration Zone BIPV Project

With the world's increasing focus on sustainable development, the concept of green and low-carbon development has become the main theme of future social development. As a leading exploration in this field in China, the construction of the Hainan Boao Zero-Carbon Demonstration Zone not only showcases the latest achievements of China's green and low-carbon development concepts, technologies, and practices, but also provides a replicable "zero-carbon city" model for the world.

Project Overview:

Project Location: Boao City, Hainan Province

Project Type: BIPV Comprehensive Application

Installed Capacity: 162.65 kWp

Project Background: Building a New Benchmark for Green Development

The construction of the Hainan Boao Zero-Carbon Demonstration Zone centers around the internationally renowned Boao Forum for Asia Conference Center, aiming to showcase innovative applications of zero-carbon buildings. As a window for disseminating China's green development concepts to the world, this demonstration zone further establishes the leading position of China's green and low-carbon technologies in the international market.

In the "zero-energy" building renovation of the conference center, world-leading cadmium telluride (CdTe) photovoltaic glass technology was adopted, creating multiple green application scenarios such as photovoltaic fences, photovoltaic floor tiles, and photovoltaic transparent corridors. These innovative Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) applications demonstrate the unlimited possibilities of integrating clean energy with buildings, providing strong technical support for the construction of "zero-carbon cities".

Project Highlights: The Perfect Combination of Technology and Aesthetics

The renovation project of the Boao Forum for Asia Conference Center uses the most advanced cadmium telluride (CdTe) photovoltaic glass. Its unique multilayer structure gives it both high power generation efficiency and aesthetic design advantages:

Product Structure

5mm + 40% 3.2mm CdTe + 5mm

6mm + 20% 3.2mm CdTe + 6mm

8mm + 3.2mm CdTe + 8mm

These photovoltaic glasses of different thicknesses are not only used in building structures such as fences, floor tiles, and corridors, but also create transparent, translucent, and opaque visual effects through different light transmittance designs, achieving a perfect combination of power generation function and architectural aesthetics.

Cadmium Telluride Photovoltaic Glass: Leading the New Direction of Photovoltaic Technology

Cadmium telluride photovoltaic glass, as the core technology of this project, has advantages such as high power generation efficiency, lightweight design, and strong environmental adaptability. Its comprehensive application has brought 162.65 kWp of installed capacity to the Hainan Boao Zero-Carbon Demonstration Zone, providing strong support for the building to achieve self-sufficient energy supply.

Compared with traditional solar photovoltaic systems, cadmium telluride photovoltaic glass has a longer power generation duration and can be directly combined with building materials, reducing space occupation and truly achieving seamless integration of buildings and energy.

Zero-Carbon Demonstration Zone: Comprehensive Exploration of Zero-Carbon Application Scenarios

During the renovation of the Boao Forum for Asia Conference Center, not only was building-integrated photovoltaics implemented, but zero-carbon technologies were also comprehensively explored in a wider range of scenarios:

Photovoltaic Fences: Not only provide safety protection for the building's exterior, but also supply power to the building through photovoltaic technology, saving traditional energy consumption.

Photovoltaic Floor Tiles: Combine building decoration and power generation functions, providing energy for the building without compromising the aesthetics of the ground.

Photovoltaic Transparent Corridors: Bring natural light to indoor and outdoor spaces while effectively generating electricity through translucent design, improving the building's energy efficiency.

The Hainan Boao Zero-Carbon Demonstration Zone is not only a showcase of China's green and low-carbon development concepts, but also an important experimental field for future building-integrated photovoltaic technology. Through the innovative application of cadmium telluride photovoltaic glass, the demonstration zone has successfully explored various possibilities for zero-carbon cities. The success of this project has not only provided a benchmark case for green buildings in China, but also contributed Chinese wisdom and solutions to the global goal of addressing climate change and promoting green development.

Let us look forward to the future Boao Zero-Carbon Demonstration Zone continuing to lead in green technology and creating a more sustainable future.
