How to measure the energy efficiency of a building?

 

Building energy efficiency is a relative concept. Simply put, our buildings are more energy-efficient than buildings in the past. Here we need to look at it quantitatively, that is, the building energy saving rate, to measure its building energy efficiency level.

According to the General Code for Building Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Utilization (GB 55015-2021), the average energy saving rate of buildings in different climatic zones shall meet the following requirements: 1. The average energy saving rate of residential buildings in severe cold and cold regions shall be 75%;2. Except for severe cold and cold regions, the average energy saving rate of residential buildings in other climatic zones shall be 65%; 3. The average energy saving rate of public buildings shall be 72%.

According to China's building climate zoning standard, our city belongs to the hot summer and cold winter area. Compared with the national standard of 65% average energy saving rate, the newly-built residential buildings in our city have been upgraded to 75% energy saving standard according to the "Jiangsu Province Residential Building Thermal Environment and Energy Saving Design Standard", and the newly-built public buildings in our city implement 72% energy saving standard according to the national standard.

(Note: The calculation of building energy saving rate of 75% and 65% is based on the building energy consumption level in 1980 s in China.)

 

How to judge a building to meet the building energy saving rate requirements?

 

The standard of building energy saving rate is implemented in the form of standards and specifications, and the prescribed energy saving design index is used as the judgment standard. Taking the newly-built public buildings in our city as an example, it is necessary to meet the requirements of standards and specifications such as "Design Standards for Energy Efficiency of Public Buildings" and "Design Standards for Energy Efficiency of Public Buildings in Jiangsu Province", and submit building energy efficiency calculations for review by building construction drawings review agencies. That is to meet the building energy-saving design requirements.

 

Comprehensive energy saving rate of building and energy saving rate of building body

 

The calculation of building energy-saving rate is based on the level of building energy consumption in the 1980 s, and it will increase by 30% every few years. The change of energy-saving rate will become smaller and smaller, which can no longer meet the needs of building energy-saving development in the new era. As the country vigorously promotes ultra-low energy consumption buildings and near-zero energy consumption buildings, ultra-low energy consumption buildings have stepped onto a new level in the field of building energy efficiency, and the concepts of building comprehensive energy saving rate and building ontology energy saving rate have emerged. These two concepts are explained in the Technical Standard for Near Zero Energy Buildings (GB/T51350-2019):

building comprehensive energy saving rateRefers to the difference between the comprehensive value of building energy consumption of the design building and the benchmark building, and the ratio of the comprehensive value of building energy consumption of the benchmark building.

Energy saving rate of building bodyIt refers to the difference between the comprehensive value of building energy consumption of the design building excluding renewable energy generation and the comprehensive value of building energy consumption of the benchmark building under the set calculation conditions, and the ratio of the comprehensive value of building energy consumption of the benchmark building.

Taking the newly-built ultra-low energy consumption public buildings in our city as an example, the comprehensive energy saving rate of buildings should be increased by more than 50% compared with the energy consumption level of buildings in 2016, and the energy saving rate of building bodies should be increased by more than 20%. At present, the comprehensive energy saving rate of the talent apartment in Jiangbei New District and the supporting kindergarten project in Qilihe District, an ultra-low energy consumption building in our city, has reached 75% and 85% respectively, and the comprehensive energy saving rate of Kongjia Village, Jingqiao Town, Lishui District, has reached 93.26......
