This eco-house is located in Toyooka City, Japan, the core city in the northern part of Hyogo Prefecture. Toyooka City has rich and unique natural landscapes, especially around the Maruyama River. In such a context, the house becomes a model of local eco-friendly housing. It is one of 20 eco-housing projects by the Japanese Ministry of Environment.
Toyooka is cold and snowy in winter, hot in summer and humid all year round. Thus, a traditional house with a large hollow space called TAKA appeared. In such a space, hot air and humidity can diffuse out through skylights, making it an air conditioning system. The exterior walls are plastered for strong fire resistance.
The interior walls can capture moisture and heat, absorb heat from the sun in winter, and use the cool outdoor air at night to lower the indoor temperature in summer.
The residence has introduced a solar power generation system, which directly utilizes the heat of the sun. Circulation fans control the flow of warm air for a more comfortable indoor environment. The pellet stove is introduced into the house as a heating system that utilizes biomass for heating without emitting CO2. In the void space there is a Wenduo underfloor heating system. These systems create a comfortable indoor environment with their high operating efficiency. The house also incorporates a rainwater harvesting and reuse system and LED lights.
