Xi Jinping emphasized that on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, at a special moment when all countries are committed to fighting the new crown pneumonia epidemic and promoting high-quality economic recovery, the United Nations holds a biodiversity summit to discuss the protection of biodiversity and promote sustainable development. A major topic with realistic and far-reaching significance.

Xi Jinping pointed out that at present, the global species extinction rate is accelerating, and the loss of biodiversity and the degradation of ecosystems pose a major risk to human survival and development. The new crown pneumonia epidemic tells us that man and nature are a community of destiny. We need to work together, act quickly, protect while developing, develop while protecting, and build a beautiful homeland where everything is harmonious.

Xi Jinping put forward four suggestions on this:

The first is to adhere to ecological civilization and strengthen the drive to build a beautiful world. Biodiversity is an important basis for human survival and development. The prosperity of ecology leads to the prosperity of civilization. We must stand responsible for human civilization, respect nature, conform to nature, protect nature, explore the path of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, promote the coordination and unity of economic development and ecological protection, and jointly build a prosperous, clean and beautiful world.

The second is to uphold multilateralism and unite efforts in global environmental governance. International treaties such as the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement are the legal basis for relevant environmental governance and important achievements of multilateral cooperation, which have received extensive support and participation from all parties. In the face of global environmental risks and challenges, all countries are a community with a shared future, unilateralism is unpopular, and cooperation is the right way. We must resolutely defend the international system with the United Nations at its core, maintain the dignity and authority of international rules, and improve the level of global environmental governance.

The third is to maintain green development and cultivate high-quality post-epidemic economic recovery vitality. We must focus on the long-term, maintain strength, and adhere to green, inclusive, and sustainable development. It is necessary to seek development opportunities from the protection of nature and achieve a win-win situation between ecological environmental protection and high-quality economic development.

The fourth is to enhance the sense of responsibility and improve the ability to respond to environmental challenges. Developed and developing countries are at different stages of development, and have different historical responsibilities and practical capabilities on environmental issues. We should adhere to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, and accommodate the concerns of developing countries in terms of capital, technology and capacity building. We must earnestly implement our commitments and do a good job in implementing our goals.

Long-term and large-scale control of desertification and desertification, effective protection and restoration of wetlands, and the collection and preservation of biological genetic resources rank among the top in the world. 90% of terrestrial ecosystem types and 85% of key wildlife populations have been effectively protected. China actively participates in global environmental governance, and earnestly fulfills its obligations under environmental treaties on climate change and biodiversity. China will uphold the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, and is willing to assume international responsibilities commensurate with China's development level, increase the intensity of nationally determined contributions, and adopt more forceful policies and measures. Neutralization, making greater efforts and contributions to achieve the goals set in the Paris Agreement on climate change.
