A Comprehensive Collection of Guangzhou’s All‑Area Photovoltaic Building Projects | Covering Rural Homes, Public Buildings, and Industrial Parks Across the Board
In recent years, Guangzhou has earnestly implemented the new development philosophy, rigorously followed the provincial Party committee’s “1310” work plan, and deeply advanced the “High-Quality Development Project for 100 Counties, 1,000 Towns, and 10,000 Villages.” The city has integrated distributed photovoltaic (PV) systems into the development and promotion of its “12218” modern industrial system and vigorously promoted the installation of PV on public buildings. Actively encouraging the deployment of distributed PV across public rooftops, commercial structures, and green rural housing, Guangzhou has seen Huadu and Conghua districts included in Guangdong Province’s county-level pilot program for “PV + Building” applications in 2024. As a result, the city’s total installed PV capacity has grown rapidly, giving rise to a number of exemplary “Building + PV” projects that have effectively advanced carbon‑neutral initiatives in the built environment and fostered green development in urban and rural construction.
This case collection compiles exemplary “PV-plus‑building” projects from the Guangzhou region and the award‑winning entries from Guangdong Province’s first “PV-plus‑building” rural housing design competition. Covering diverse building types—including public structures, innovative rural homes, municipal facilities, and industrial parks—it aims to provide valuable references for industry professionals and the general public, further advancing the integrated development of distributed photovoltaics and architecture, and accelerating the emergence and growth of new‑type productive forces.

The project is located in Lantian Village, Chini Town, covering a site area of 120 m² and a total floor area of approximately 280 m². It features a novel two-and-a-half‑story rural residence built using an innovative “rooftop photovoltaics + MIC modular” construction system, with integrated design, manufacturing, and mechanized prefabricated assembly across all disciplines. This approach enables high‑standard, customized, modular production at the factory, followed by on‑site assembly within one week and completion within 30 days, ensuring lean construction that is both safe and of superior quality. The project incorporates 70.2 m² of bifacial, double‑glass photovoltaic modules, generating 15,000 kWh of electricity annually and reducing carbon emissions by roughly 15 tonnes per year.

The project is located in Jingxia Village, Longhu Subdistrict, Huangpu District, with a total floor area of approximately 88,000 square meters, encompassing 282 rural residential buildings. The maximum building height is no more than 13 meters, with three stories above ground. The system has a total installed capacity of about 4,382 kWp and an annual power generation of roughly 424.7 MWh, enabling residents to achieve “zero electricity bills” in their daily lives.

Located on the western side of Baiyun Mountain in Guangzhou, in the northern part of Baiyun New Town, the project was completed in 2005. It is a world-class, large-scale, integrated convention center that combines conference facilities, exhibition spaces, a hotel, dining options, performance venues, and office space, with a total floor area exceeding 450,000 square meters.
The project integrates photovoltaic system installation into its building renovation and maintenance works, with a PV coverage area exceeding 40,000 m²—more than 90% of the total roof surface. Operating under a “self‑generation for self‑consumption, with surplus power fed to the grid” model, the system has a total installed capacity of 4.19 MW, generating approximately 4.37 million kWh annually, saving nearly 1,248 tons of standard coal per year and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 3,120 tons.

The project is located at No. 198, Yiyuan Road, Haizhu District, Guangzhou, covering a site area of 32,569 square meters and a total floor area of 79,453.1 square meters. It comprises five above-ground floors and two underground levels, with a total of 21 exhibition halls (exhibition zones) and approximately 19,000 square meters of exhibit space. The facility serves as a large-scale, modern, international, and digital art hub, integrating collection, exhibition, research, and education. The building has installed a total of 23,978 colored cadmium telluride thin-film photovoltaic modules across its five façade surfaces and roof. , with a total area of approximately 17,638 m², a combined installed capacity of 303.8 kWp, and an annual electricity generation of 223,000 kWh.

The project is located at the tip of Lingshan Island and serves as the premier venue for high-level scientific events in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, positioned as a core hub for international science and technology exchange and collaboration, as well as for the industrialization of scientific research. Covering a site area of 58,469 m² with a total floor area of 92,622.38 m², the facility comprises four above-ground floors and one underground level, forming a science-themed complex that includes an academic center, a science museum, and associated office spaces. A distributed photovoltaic system, spanning approximately 1,000 m² on the roof, has an installed capacity of 100 kWp and generates an annual output of 97,000 kWh.
